Negroni Herring - A new swedish christmas classic

Introduction

Herring, a fish rich in nutrients and flavor, is a staple in many cuisines, and a classic food on the swedish christmas table. This recipe offers a unique twist, infusing herring with a blend of gin, vermouth, and Campari, complemented by orange and bay leaves. It's an exquisite blend of flavors that promises to tantalize your taste buds.

Negroni Herring - Ingredients

  • 200g herring in clear brine
  • 1 dl vinegar
  • 2 dl sugar
  • 3 dl water
  • 2 cl gin
  • 2 cl vermouth
  • 2 cl campari
  • 1/2 orange
  • 2-3 bay leaves

How-To: 

Remove the herring from the clear brine. Cut it into centimeter-thick pieces and place in a bowl. Then pour the brine back over. Wash the orange and cut into slices, add to the herring along with the bay leaves. Add gin, campari, and vermouth, as well as the brine of vinegar, sugar, and water.

Voila! Now you have probably the most unique swedish herring for the holidays!
